Hesketh Golf Club

Visitors Comments

As a society we have been away for a 3 / 4 day break every September for 12 years now and in that time have played all "The Open Courses" in the British Isles, we play the Open course and then play a couple of local courses near to where we are staying. I can honestly tell you that the welcome and hospitality we received at Hesketh has not been matched or even come close to by any other course we have visited in the last 12 years.

I know that I speak for my friends in saying that the overriding impression created by the Hesketh Club was its exceptional friendliness and sense of genuine welcome. To provide you with a basis on which to evaluate this assessment, we visit several clubs in the Lancashire and Cheshire area every summer, from the very famous to the less well-known, but equally (if not more) enjoyable. Hesketh was, without question, a delightful experience "from beginning to end".

All in all 5/5 Great day good value

We had a great time at Hesketh. We would definitely come back and recommend the course.

It was an excellent day's golf in every respect from the minute we arrived until the post dinner drinks.

Just a quick note to thank you and all your staff for a wonderful day at Hesketh. The course was in such great condition and as usual the welcome you receive from both the members and the staff is second to none.

All in all Hesketh gives excellent value for money with the most friendly of clubs from everybody working there.

We had a truly lovely day at Hesketh Golf Club and I have no hesitation inscoring a 5 in every category. We were blessed with good weather and that together with the friendly welcome by everyone, the excellent catering and of course a fabulous golf course in superb condition made it a very specialday for us all

I just wanted to say that our group had a fantastic time last Friday, the course is wonderful and the people very welcoming -  Many thanks.

The course was in excellent condition. I was just taken with the layout across the road. The potential is extraordinary. I particularly liked the seventh hole as particularly scenic. The finishing holes are, as we say in the States, "..all that and a bag of nuts!" Is there a more unique playing finish in golf? I suspect not. All the holes around the clubhouse nestled in the protective mounds. Number 2 with its TPC aura. It may not be an island, but you definitely don't want to miss the green. The club's history and its anecdotes from the past left thoughts and memories long after the golf was over. As the song goes, they can't take that away from me.

"Your course is in great shape and certainly one of the most attractive I have ever played on with some clever and interesting holes"

Captain of a prestigious club along the coast.

"Over the years we have seen many improvements to the clubhouse and golf course"

Annual Charity event Organiser.

"We loved everything about the club especially the course, which was in wonderful condition"
Secretary/Manager of a South Devon Club.

"And so to Hesketh, the club I would most like to join if I lived in the area. All the northwest venues are exceptionally friendly, but even in that context, Hesketh stands out. Opened in 1885, it is the oldest of the Southport clubs, a mixture of parkland and links set in a prosperous suburb among substantial Victorian villas. The course may be less classical than some of its rivals, but is chosen to host qualifying competitions for the Open whenever it is held at Birkdale. And its members greet passing strangers as if they were life-long friends. Don't miss it".

Quote from the Sunday Times following Minty Clinch's visit to the club.
