Hesketh Golf Club

Dave Harrison - Gentleman's Captain 2011

Dave Harrison has been a member of Hesketh Golf Club for 17 years.

Now retired, Dave had a 40 year career in the public service where he worked for various Government Departments, The Engineering Council and the North West Development Agency. Dave's career started and finished in the North West and it took him to London, Birmingham and also included spells abroad in Sweden and Australia. Dave's proudest moment in his career was to host the International Cotton Meeting in LIverpool in 2006 during the time when he was leading the UK delegation for cotton trading. Dave has always been a keen sportsman having failed to make the grade in professional football with Shrewsbury Town, he continued to play football regularly until he was 52 and cricket until he was 57. Dave represented the civil service and also captained his own departments at both sports. He took up golf in the mid 1980s and was previously a member at Robin Hood Golf Club in Solihull and Federal GC in Canberra, Australia.

Dave is looking forward to an active year representing the Hesketh and, in particular, to being closely involved in the club's great honour of jointly hosting this year's Amateur Championship.

Dave is married to Pauline, who took up golf less than 3 years ago and provided him with his proudest sporting moment when she won the Ladies KO at Hesketh in her first full year as a member.

Dave is a Liverpool FC season ticket holder although visits to Anfield are likely to be severely restricted during his captaincy year - just at a time when the club is on the road to recovery!

They have a son, John (26), who was also a member until he started working abroad and a daughter, Laura (21), who is currently at dance college.
