COVID-19 Updates

Update 01.04.20

Dear Members,

Given the current Coronavirus pandemic, I hope this email finds you well.

Thank you to the many members who have sent in messages of support and to those who have been in a position to continue their support of the club through the payment of subscriptions at this difficult time.

An emergency meeting of the Board of Directors has been arranged for Thursday evening (online), now that the UK Government has issued the details of support packages. The Board of Directors will advise all members as soon as possible, of the predicted impact the situation will have on the Club in regards Course Maintenance, Finances and the wellbeing of members and staff.

A huge amount of work has been undertaken in the past week since the Course closed. I personally would like to thank all the staff and Directors for their efforts.

In conclusion, the Board of Directors will be in touch soon to advise members the course of actions the Club will need to take.

Kind regards

Secretary Manager

Update 23.3.20

Dear Members,

I am able to provide the following important updates in relation to the Coronavirus:

Golf Course

The golf course continues to remain open for play, subject to social distancing measures being respected. This is a subject continually under review.

All golfers are required to follow the guidance notes which are available on the 1st tee.

The playing of golf is deemed safe, as contact with others is not required. Continue to laugh and enjoy each others company, but I must stress there is no requirement to walk less than 2 metres from your playing partner, no need to stand next to each on the tee, no need to all look in a congregation for a lost ball (does it really matter), no need to all sit on the same bench, no need to touch the flag etc. The list goes on. The course is big enough to accommodate a safe escape for all those who wish to continue to use it.

Two metre measure points have been put in various locations around the course to remind members of the distance required for social distancing. This is vitally important as the advice is no less than 2 metres. To be safe, why not make it a little further next time you play?

I would beg members to continue to adhere to the measures.

Clubhouse

The Bar & Catering facility will remain closed until further notice.

The Office will now be closed, with work undertaken from home. I must stress the phone lines and answerphone are now unmanned. All initial communication is required through email, with requests for a call back possible.

The clubhouse closed today at 16:30 until further notice. This includes the locker rooms, toilets and trolley store.

Any member who has been unable to retrieve their clubs or trolley before the closure, is advised to contact me via email in order to find a suitable time for retrieval.

The halfway house toilets will remain in use, and will be under continual monitoring and restocking by the Green Staff.

The Clubhouse will be operating to the following times:

Monday 23rd

The locker rooms and toilets were open from 06:00 to 16:30.

This was the final day before a full closure. Members were asked to remove all clubs and trolleys from lockers and the trolley store

Tuesday 24th

Clubhouse completely closed until further notice. Please email me if you are unable to retrieve your clubs / trolley before the closure.

Competitions

Saturday & Wednesday competition golf has now been abandoned until further notice.

The use of the Saturday tee time booking through competitions will continue, but no competition golf will be played.

Wednesdays will revert to standard midweek tee times.

The competition times for this coming Saturday 28th March will remain as originally booked and currently live on the system.

Tee booking through the usual competition section of the website for Saturday 4th April will go live this evening at 19:00. Play will be in 3 balls using 10 minute intervals.

A decision on the rescheduling of the Bentley Foursomes qualifier will be made in due course.

A further decision on Matchplay events will be made in the coming days.

Pro Shop

The Pro Shop will be working on reduced hours of 08:30 to 12:00 until further notice.

All lessons have been suspended.

Members are  reminded not to congregate in close groups at any time, but especially outside the Pro Shop.

The Pro Shop will be operating a 1 in 1 out policy in the coming days as they monitor if it is still possible / feasible to remain open.

Office

As mentioned previously, the office team are now all working from home, therefore I would like to request that members still needing to pay their subscription for 2020/21 do so via BACS or online through the website.

Any members unable to make payment through the website or internet may make payment over the phone, subject to anticipated assistance by our card terminal provider, Worldpay.

I have been asked by a number of members about the Golf Credit scheme. It is still possible to sign up for the scheme, before the 31st March. The subscription payments would then be split over 9 equal payments from either May 1st or 15th. Golf Credit incurs a 5% fee, as we utilise a 3rd party due to financial regulations.

Members wishing to pay over the phone, are asked to email me in advance so that I can provide a call back.

Members with any other queries are requested to do so via email to either -  secretary@heskethgolfclub.co.uk or  assistant@heskethgolfclub.co.uk

The club phone line and answerphone will be unmanned.

Social Well Being

A reminder of yesterdays messages from Peter McVicar (Course Manager) and Reverend Stewart Reid (Club Chaplain):

A message from Your Greenteam

During these times of uncertainty, I want to assure you all that the whole team are doing everything we can to maintain our fine golf course.  I can see no reason why this won’t continue. We continue to follow advice from all the golf authorities and as a club have played a huge part in these guidelines being setup.
But as the communications from the club continue to stipulate, we need your help:
Please don’t use the bins
Please don’t touch pins or tee markers
And
please keep at least 2 metres apart.
On a personal note this club and it’s members have been very good to me and my family over the last 12 years (yes it’s been that long). I’d like to offer help to anyone who is isolated  and in need of any supplies, please feel free to contact me on 07506940432 or  pdmv@hotmail.co.uk
Finally for now I’m praying for Hesketh and it’s members as well as an end to this horrible pandemic, I’m convinced we will get through this and become stronger.
Thank you for your continued support.
Peter

Over the weekend Peter has also been in touch with Reverend Stewart Reid our Club Chaplain. Stewart would like to share the following message:

Perhaps I could introduce myself. Not everyone knows that we have an honorary club chaplain. Prior to retirement four years ago, I was Vicar of Christ Church, Lord St. for just over twenty years, during which time I was a member of Royal Birkdale. It has been my privilege to serve as Hesketh Club Chaplain for the past three years following on from Richard Vernon and ably assisted in this role by Bert Ball. During the present national health emergency we would both want to assure the club membership that if there is any way in which we can be of pastoral or practical help please do not hesitate to be in touch with either of us through the club office. I still intend ,circumstances allowing , to be on the course most Mondays and Fridays and would encourage the membership to continue to take full advantage of our great course while in adherence to current club advice.
Rev Stewart Reid

Update 22.3.20

Dear Members,

I am able to provide the following important updates in relation to the Coronavirus:

Golf Course

The golf course continues to remain open for play.

All golfers are strongly urged to continue to follow the guidance notes which are available on the 1st tee.

The importance of social distancing has once again been reiterated by the Prime Minister and Deputy Chief Medical Officer in this evenings press conference.

Golf club Managers from across the North West have been sharing stories of social distancing being blatantly ignored at their clubs. I would hope Hesketh Golf Club members would set a shining example of what is required.

I cannot urge members strongly enough to adhere to the measures, primarily keeping at least two metres apart. We will be painting two metre measure points by the first tees to highlight the distancing that is required.

I am disappointed to report that a member or members playing in the Saturday competition completely disregarded the decommissioning of the on course bins and proceeded to leave empty cans and bottles for our staff to retrieve. I have to reiterate that all of the measures implemented are to protect the safety of members and staff.

As mentioned in previous updates, a review of competitions will be made in the coming days.

Clubhouse

The Bar & Catering facility will remain closed until further notice.

The Office will now be closed, with work undertaken from home.

The clubhouse remained closed today. (Sunday)

The clubhouse will be open until 16:30 on Monday, but then closed completely until further notice. This includes the locker rooms, toilets and trolley store.

Any member unable to retrieve their clubs or trolley before the closure, is advised to contact me via email in order to find a suitable time for retrieval.

The halfway house toilets will remain in use, and will be under continual monitoring and restocking by the Green Staff.

The Clubhouse will be operating to the following times:

Sunday 22nd

The clubhouse was closed.

Monday 23rd

The locker rooms and toilets will be open from 06:00 to 16:30.

This will be the final day before a full closure. Please remove all clubs and trolleys from lockers and the trolley store

Tuesday 24th

Clubhouse completely closed. Please email me if you are unable to retrieve your clubs / trolley before the closure.

A rolling three day Opening schedule will be sent out to members in each daily update and is available on the website

Office

As mentioned yesterday, I have now instructed Delphine, Christie and Magali to work from home, therefore I would like to request that members still needing to pay their subscription for 2020/21 do so via BACS or online through the website.

Any members unable to make payment through the website or internet may make payment over the phone, subject to anticipated assistance by our card terminal provider, Worldpay.

Further updates will be provided in the coming days.

The physical and mental well being of members is a priority at what is clearly a difficult time for all. Having been in near constant contact with Peter McVicar our Course Manager, Peter would like to share the following message:

Dear Members,

I am able to provide the following important updates in relation to the Coronavirus:

Golf Course

The golf course remains open for play.

All golfers are urged to continue to follow the guidance notes which are available on the 1st tee.

The importance of golf clubs reiterating the necessity for social distancing measures is being delivered by many of the games governing bodies and leading organisations. PLEASE continue to follow the measures, not only for yourself but for the community and of course the NHS.

Clubhouse

The difficult decision to close the Bar & Catering operation was ultimately one that would have been forced upon us anyway, given the Prime Ministers briefing on Friday evening.

The clubhouse remained open for members to access the locker rooms and toilets via the external locker room doors today (Saturday). Access to the rest of the clubhouse was restricted.

I must remind members that the Clubhouse will be completely closed tomorrow (Sunday), so anyone requiring their clubs or trolley must remove them tonight. The clubhouse is open until 20:00 tonight (Saturday) to assist members.

The Clubhouse will be operating to the following times:

Saturday 21st

Locker rooms will be open until 20:00, access will be via the external locker room doors up to 18:00 and then from the main clubhouse front door between 18:00 and 20:00 (please remove all clubs and trolleys required for Golf on Sunday)

Sunday 22nd

The clubhouse will be completely closed - members are asked to remove golf clubs and trolleys in advance as access will not be possible during Sunday

Monday 23rd

Still, at this time, the plan is to open the clubhouse for locker and toilet access until 16:30. I cannot stress enough the importance of members removing their clubs and trolleys from the Clubhouse.

A review of this process will be made upon completion of the Competition this Saturday.

Member Volunteering

We have received the following email from one of our members, Ian Shearin:

Southport Area: Prescription pick up service

I can pick up your prescription for the Southport Area. If it is a medical authorised prescription then you will need to phone the pharmacy to let them know I am picking up.

If you just need some medication from the counter I can do that if you let me know what you need.

I am semi retired but I don’t have any work on currently so I am available 24/7.

I can have a response time of 1 hour or up to 4 hours if i’m on the Golf Course.

Please note I am not a medical practioner, I can not offer any medical advice.

Im just a guy on a bike with time to spare. Mobile No 07740 316503

Update 19.3.20
SDGA Mixed
I have been advised that it has, regrettably, been necessary to cancel the final SDGA mixed competition, which was due to be played on April 5th, due to the COVID-19 virus.
At the moment there is no real directive re. league games and whilst I will be in touch with those involved in due course it is unlikely that they will go ahead in 2020.
Whilst disappointing for all concerned I am sure you will agree that it is for the best in the present climate.
Kind regards,

Jane Coulthard

Update 18.3.20

Dear Members,

At the March Meeting of the Board of Directors which took place on Tuesday evening, the Coronavirus situation was discussed. I am able to confirm the following actions are being taken in line with many other clubs within the area and nationally:

Golf Course

All measures are being taken to ensure the Golf Course remains open and maintained to the highest possible standard. This is a primary concern at present, to ensure members are able to use the facility.

Our Green Staff have been assigned specific machines and are ensuring they do not cross contaminate.

Essential maintenance plans are in place to cover the key areas of the Course should any staff be required to self isolate.

The Driving Range will remain a 'Practice Ground' with no supply of Club Balls provided until further notice.

The measures advised yesterday, in the Course Actions email remain in place.

Social & Dining

ALL Social & Dining events are to be cancelled up until and including Sunday 5th April. For events from the 6th April onwards, a decision will be made two weeks prior to each event, following up to date Government guidance.

Key contacts will be informed for each specific event, with a general update to members also.

Clubhouse

The clubhouse will remain open on a limited schedule until further notice. Opening Times will be updated on the website accordingly.

All Showers have been decommissioned until further notice.

The Touchscreen Computer for scorecard input has been decommissioned until further notice. Intelligent Golf are working to implement a new method, with members to be advised in due course.

Members are advised to remove items from Lockers and the Trolley Store in advance of any potential enforced Clubhouse closure. I must add there is NO plan for the Club to close the Clubhouse, but we will quite clearly have to adhere to any Government action if it is taken.

In order to facilitate this, we will be operating the Clubhouse to the following times:

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

The Bar will serve last orders at 17:30

Bar Staff will leave the Building at 18:00

Peter McVicar has volunteered to 'house sit' the Clubhouse from 18:00 to 20:00 in order for members to access the Clubhouse to take their clubs.

After 18:00 access to the Clubhouse will be via the Main Door only, with members cards granting access to the Trolley Store until 20:00 each evening.

Competitions

Saturday and Wednesday Competitions will continue as normal. Any changes will be advised via email.
