Dear Open Competitor,

Please find below our email that was sent out to competitors last week.

In addition we have been informed by the County Secretary:

Players travelling from within an area currently affected by Government restrictions, to a club outside should also sit only with members of their own household inside the clubhouse wherever they are playing or visiting.

We would ask that all Visitors to the club respect these guidelines at all times. We have seating available outdoors for up to 40 people.

Kind regards

Email from 31st July 2020

Firstly thank you for entering one of our Open Competitions.

The world is a markedly different place to when we ran our August Opens this time last year. As you may expect we have a number of procedures / requirements to advise you and your group on before you arrive with us on the day.

One of the key requirements is;

We advise all members, guests and visitors to the club to not come to the club at all if:

• you have any symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)

• you've tested positive for coronavirus – this means you have coronavirus

• you live with someone who has symptoms or has tested positive

• someone in your support bubble has symptoms or has tested positive

• you're told by NHS Test and Trace that you've been in contact with a person with coronavirus

Registration & Scoring

Registration for the Competition will take place in our Professionals Shop which is located on the Main Car Park.

You will be handed the card of your opponent. There will be no swapping of cards.

As with all shops in England, the wearing of a face mask / covering is required by law except for those with a reason not to wear one. Whilst the Club will not be policing the wearing of masks, we would request competitors respect the guideline when possible.

One of our Welcoming Starters will be on hand to remind players of the on-course guidelines and rules. Once again, please always respect Social Distancing.

Scoring will also take place in the Pro Shop, except specifically for our Junior Open where it will take place in the club’s spike bar. Details on this will be provided on the day.

Verbal recognition of scoring will be required so we ask that one player from each pair, or two players from one team of 4 record there scores immediately upon completion of the round.

Once completed, there is no requirement to sign the card as a ‘player’.

Results will be finalised the following day, with scores posted online.

Accounts in the Professional Shop will be created for all prize winners.

Accounts credited with Prize Money will have 12 months from the date of the Competition to be redeemed.

No physical vouchers will be posted out to winners.

Food and Drink

The Clubhouse will be open and running a Breakfast Roll service up until roughly 30 minutes before the final tee time each day.

For those running tight on time or choosing to arrive close to their tee time, we will be able to offer a takeaway service.

After this time, we will have a selection of Pork Pies, Sandwiches and other items for purchase for a light snack after the round.

We are participating in the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ which provides a 50% discount on food and non-alcoholic purchases on a Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

We will also be operating our Halfway House throughout the day. Snacks and Drinks are available to purchase.

Our Clubhouse and Halfway House Opening Times are available to view online – please click here for those viewing via email

Social Distancing / Covid-19 Measures in Place

We would request that Social Distancing is always maintained.

On Course

Please do not touch the flag / pin or any item on the course that you do not absolutely have to.

Rakes have been removed from all bunkers. A local rule is in place allowing Preferred Lies in the Bunker. This is available as an addendum to this email / letter.

Clubhouse

At the time of writing this email / letter a local lockdown of sorts has been enforced in areas of Greater Manchester and the surrounding area. The club will be following all guidelines issued by Government and should any changes affect our specific area, we may need to react accordingly with the provision of our Clubhouse / Catering operation.

Within the Clubhouse, we must request that tables consist of up to two households, as per government guidance. Our Lounge has been set to accommodate this, and we request that no furniture is moved.

We can accommodate up to 28 households indoors, and up to a further 30 people outdoors.

We are unable to accommodate more than these numbers. Whilst we do not expect to exceed these numbers, I must ask that you respect our staff who have the difficult job of monitoring the situation if they advise there is no spaces available.

Entry to the Clubhouse is via the back lawn, turning left when approaching the Clubhouse from the Main Car Park. The Main Clubhouse entrance will remain closed.

Those using the Clubhouse must wait to be seated / granted entry, both indoors and outdoors.

Hands must be sanitised on entry.

Table service will be in operation. Staff will advise on the day exactly how this will work.

We ask that where possible contactless payment methods are used.

Whilst there is clearly a lot to take in and adhere to, we do hope that despite all of these measures, or even due to these measures you are able to enjoy your visit to Hesketh Golf Club.

This document, along with any possible additions will be made available on the day and will be provided on registration. Please do share this message with your playing partners, for who we do not have email addresses of.

Please tag us in your social media posts - @HeskethGolfClub on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even TikTok.

Local Rule for Bunkers

Preferred Lies in a Bunker

When a player's ball lies in a bunker the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area:

Reference Point: Spot of the original ball.

Size of Relief Area: 6 inches from the reference point, but must not be nearer the hole than the reference point and must still be in the bunker.

In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.

Penalty for Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Local Rule: General Penalty Under Rule 14.7a.

For this rule, please remember - The bunker condition must not be improved prior to the placing of the ball, otherwise a General Penalty of 2 Strokes is to be applied.
